Hello and welcome to our first blog post. What better place to start than to talk about double glazing. We all know what windows are and we’re all familiar with the term ‘’double glazing’’ but what actually is it?
What is double glazing?
Double glazing consists of two panes of glass separated by a gas filled space. The vacuum or gas filled space is the gap of about ¾ of an inch that you can see between the two panes of glass, hence the term double glazing.
The science in the gap or the spacer, the gap in your double glazing windows will reduce the heat transfer for the inside of the building to the outside or vice versa.
Why is this beneficial?
The reduction in heat transfer is beneficial because first and foremost, double glazing will keep your home warmer for longer in turn reducing the amount of time you’ll need to use your heating which equates to lower energy bills.
In addition to this, the reduction in heat transfer is an excellent combatant for condensation. (We will discuss condensation in our next blog post).
Double glazing reduces condensation, reduces heat loss and also has great acoustic properties.
